This collection contains a certificate presented to John A. Fillen appointing him Major of the “Atlanta Battalion” of the Georgia Militia. The appointment was made by Georgia Governor, James M. Smith, on July 24, 1874 and is also signed by the Secretary of the Executive Department, J.N. Warren.

This collection contains a photocopy of a letter to John Maier, owner of Maier & Berkele, from William C. Duncans of the Industrial Association of Georgia; an invitation to Maier to the Inaugural Ball of Georgia Governor James M. Smith; and a copy of a letter to Mrs. John Maier from Mount Zion Chapter No. 16 regarding resolutions adopted by the members upon the death of Mr. Maier.
