Series I: Research records, 1692-1992, undated
Scope and Contents
This series contains research on Alabama and Georgia history, Robertson and Smith family histories, the history of textiles, nineteenth century newspapers, museums and libraries, potpourri, nineteenth century pamphlets and speeches, Thomas Sheraton, and a study of pain and pleasure. The bulk of the collection are Smith’s hand-written notes and notecards on these subjects. Of particular note are eighteenth century documents about the trade of enslaved persons, an Almanac from 1730, and a published speech by Abraham Lincoln. In addition to his own research, the series also has research conducted by his mother and cousins pertaining to family history and Alabama history.
