Scope and Contents
This series contains Army of Tennessee pay documents, requisitions, and special orders for officer personnel, such as commanding officers, engineer troops, and surgeons. Records include officer pay accounts; discharge and final pay documents; and requisitions for clothing, forage, fuel, and stationery. There are also requisitions by officers for conscripts, paroled prisoners, and enslaved persons. Of particular note are clothing requisitions for enslaved laborers working on the Confederate fortifications surrounding Atlanta and Augusta. Additionally, there are muster rolls and pay vouchers pertaining to the use of enslaved nurses and cooks, and the construction of coffins for soldiers signed by surgeons.
