Scope and Content
This collection documents the activities of various members of the Thompson and Glover families who lived in Madison, Monticello, and Atlanta, Ga., primarily Catherine Thompson, Will Glover Thompson, Emily Fish Glover, Sallie [Sarah] Glover, and Eli Glover. Materials include correspondence of Sallie Glover with friends and family regarding school, sicknesses, clothes, and family visits. A few letters reference the commotion and disturbance of the Civil War. Correspondence of Catherine Thompson and Will Glover Thompson cover topics relating to health, family, friendships, and work. Included among the letters is an 1864 casualty list of the 4th Georgia Regiment sent to Eli Glover. The collection contains personal financial records such as bank statements, checks, receipts, land deeds, debtors’ petition, journals, and ledgers. Other records include calling cards (1848, undated) and invitations (1848 – 1930) to cotillions, balls, and parties held in Madison, Augusta, and Atlanta. The collection contains genealogical material relating to the Glover, Thompson, Meriwether, and Jordan families of central Georgia. Other materials include farm bulletins, educational and health brochures, poems, and scrapbooks.
