Papers, 1852-1886
Scope and Content
This collection mainly consists of legal interrogatories used in Georgia Superior Courts from 1859-1866. One of the interrogatories, dated March 8, 1852, concerns Shands and Co., a partnership represented by Wier Boyd, which filed suit against Andrew Howell and Andrew Mullinax to recover damages for gold stolen from a mine. The suit was initially brought to court in Greenwood Township, El Dorado County, California, and later in Lumpkin County, Georgia, and was tried three times before a verdict was reached. The collection also consists of legal correspondence and documents in which Colonel Wier Boyd was involved in Lumpkin County, Georgia.
