Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series documents Walter Aiken and the Aiken family's social activities, education, and military careers, and contains business, legal, and political documents. Included are papers from Walter Aiken's work as a coach and sports promoter at Atlanta University. The series also contains material collected about African American fraternal organizations and business associations such as the First Congregational Church, the Atlanta Negro Voters League, the Urban League, the Negro Business League, the Butler Street YMCA, and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers. Of particular note are documents about Black housing and housing inequity as well as the Atlanta reunion of the 371st Infantry, an African American regiment that fought in World War I and World War II.
