Scope and Content Note

This series contains information about individuals associated with the development and study of southern gardens and landscapes including botanists, naturalists, and landscape designers and architects. Information about landscape architectural firms and related gardening organizations are also included in this series. The information contained here crosses three centuries and multiple disciplines including material related to John Bartram, who established the first botanic garden in the United States in 1728, and Anne Coppedge Carr, who established the Cherokee Garden Library in Atlanta, Georgia in 1975. Material consists primarily of photocopies of journal and magazine articles as well as student papers.
