Sub-series 5: Markers and monuments
Scope and Content
This series contains images taken and acquired by Kurtz during his research of the American Civil War, specifically Andrews' Raid. The images document a significant portion of the field work he conducted during his research of this event. Kurtz photographed many locations in panorama and also in detail. The detailed images include but are not limited to stuctures, natural and military features, and military relics. Kurtz also took great effort to be historically as accurate as possible in his artistic work and often photographed existing examples of objects and individuals dressed in period clothing to incorporate into his work. The bulk of these negatives are also represented in the photographs series of this group but not all exist in print version.
