Scope and Content
The images in this series were used in Mitchell's lectures from 1995 to 2010 at various events held throughout Georgia. They are associated with his major areas of study including Edward Vason Jones, architects of the Georgia School of Classicists, and 19th century Georgia homes. They depict historic homes and commercial building exteriors and interiors throughout Georgia including Johnston-Hay House, Tullie Smith Farmhouse, and the Georgia Capitol building. Also included are historic postcards depicting Atlanta in the late 19th and early 20th centuries including the Flatiron building, Kimball House hotel, and Terminal Station; and buildings of reference for Georgia classicists located in England and Virginia, including Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, the University of Virginia buildings and gardens, and Llanwern Park of Monmouthshire, England.
