From the Series:

This series documents the landscape of the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia during the middle of the 20th century. Included are images of specific buildings, streets, and other urban landmarks, as well as photographs of rural areas in cities and towns across Georgia, as well as images from Florida, Illinois and Louisiana. The series is divided into seven subseries : (A) Atlanta and Surrounding Areas, (B) Georgia Cities and Towns, (C) Florida, (D) Illinois, (E) Louisiana, (F)Unidentified and (G) Scenery. Some of the locations in Atlanta that are depicted in this series include; aerial views of downtown Atlanta, Atlanta Memorial Arts Center, the Atlanta Municipal Airport, the buildings and grounds of the Atlantic Steel Company, Fort Gordon Naval Air Station, Grant Park, Lakewood Fairgrounds, the Georgia state capitol, Grady Memorial Hospital, the General Motors plant, Kirkwood Baptist Church, Lockheed Bomber Plant, Ponce de Leon Ball Park, the construction of Interstate 85 in Atlanta, the Kimball House, Lenox Square, and Underground Atlanta. Dozens of photographs document substandard housing in the Capitol Avenue and West End neighborhoods. Images from around Georgia include the prisoner park in Andersonville, Dahlonega, Midway Church in Liberty County, Jekyll Island, Okefenokee Swamp, Hard Labor Creek state park, Warm Springs and the Suwannee River. This series also contains a number of photographs of buildings that are from unidentified locations.
