Scope and Contents
This collection contains postcards that depict scenes in Atlanta and the state of Georgia. Most of the images are of man-made structures in Atlanta including Agnes Scott College, Atlanta Municipal Airport (now Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport), Biltmore Hotel, Booker T. Washington High School, Bulloch Hall, Candler Building, Capitol City Club, City Hall, Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University), Atlanta Cyclorama at Grant Park, English-American (Flatiron) Building, Fort McPherson, Camp Gordon, Emory University, Fort Walker, Georgia School of Technology (now Georgia Institute of Technology), Georgian Terrace Hotel, Governor’s Mansion, Kimball House, Morehouse College, Municipal Auditorium, Piedmont Hotel, Piedmont Driving Club, Spelman College, Georgia State Capitol Building, Terminal Station, United States Post Office, and Union Station.
Also included are postcards of neighborhoods and streets in Atlanta such as Ansley Park, Ashby Street, Capitol Avenue, Dodson Park, Druid Hills, Elizabeth Street, Five Points, Grant Park, Marietta, Mitchell Street, Oakland Cemetery, Stone Mountain, Peachtree Street, Ponce de Leon Avenue, and Underground Atlanta. Other postcards contain images of Georgia cities and towns including, Athens, Augusta, Brunswick, Columbus, Macon, Milledgeville, Pine Mountain Valley, Rome, and Savannah. The remainder of the collection are postcards that depict broad themes like agriculture, churches, railroads, the Civil War, and racist African American stereotypes.
