Oak Hill Cemetery, Georgetown, Washington, DC, undated
Scope and Contents
This collection contains slides photographed by Cothran and Danylchak, postcards, and a stereograph used for the research and publication of Grave Landscapes. Included in the collection are images of cemeteries (both in the United States and in other countries), churches and churchyards, burial grounds, memorial gardens, and mission buildings and grounds. These images provide details of cemetery and burial practices; decoration and ornament styles on gravestones and monuments; and landscape architecture elements and trends in cemeteries. Also included in the collection are slides depicting cemetery features, such as benches, fencing, tiles, and commonly used plants. A large number of slides are of cemeteries that were developed in the mid-1800s Rural or Garden Cemetery Movement style.
