Administrative/Biographical History

In 1843 the Cox family established Cox College, also known as Southern Female College, in LaGrange, Georgia. It relocated to Atlanta in 1895 in an area then known as Manchester, and changed its name to Southern Baptist College for Women. The Cox family owned and managed the school and several family members taught there. Family members mentioned in the collection include Mr. and Mrs. I. F. Cox and their children W. S. (Will); C. C. (Charlie); Sallie (Mrs. W. L. Stanton); Alice; and "Aunt Maggie." Additional historical information about Cox College has not been determined.
