Administrative/Biographical History

The Johnson Estates Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1939 to "develop and broaden the knowledge of gardening; to promote civic beautification; to aid in the protection of trees, plants, and birds; and to encourage the study, composition and display of artistic arrangements of flowers and foliage." The club joined The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. in 1944 and was also a member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Fulton County Federation of Garden Clubs. The club was governed by elected officers such as president, vice president, and treasurer. The club supported the Highview Nursing Home (later named Crestview Health and Rehabilitation Center) by planting and maintaining a formal garden and installing a garden fountain. The club also contributed to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home and local area hospitals with donations and flowers. The club hosted and participated in numerous flower shows, winning many awards.
