Administrative/Biographical History

The Peony Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1929 to "stimulate the love and culture of peonies, other flowers and shrubs, and encourage civic planting." Later the club revised their object to "study the art of flower arrangement, landscape design, and the culture of plants." The club was governed by elected officers such as president, vice president, and treasurer. The club was a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc. The club supported many organizations such as Hillside Cottages, Grady Memorial Hospital, the American Red Cross, and the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Club projects included the Roosevelt Memorial Highway beautification, the Expressway Beautification Association efforts, and several HANDS (Home and Neighborhood Development Sponsors) projects organized by the DeKalb County Federation of Garden Clubs. The club hosted and participated in many flower shows, winning numerous awards.
