Administrative/Biographical History

Elizabeth Heidt Moore was born on April 20, 1906 in Waleska (Cherokee County), Georgia. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1922 and from Agnes Scott College in 1926. She married Jacob (Jake) Harris in 1926, and they had two daughters, Bette Moore and Nancy Rebecca. Elizabeth Harris was involved in the civil rights movement on the grassroots level. At various times, she worked for the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Girl Scouts, and served as executive director of HOPE (Help Our Public Education). After the death of Jake Harris in 1976, she married her brother-in-law, Howard (Buck) Kester. Elizabeth Harris Kester died on September 23, 1995 in Atlanta.
