Administrative/Biographical History
The Camellia Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was formed in 1940 for the "study of culture of plants and flowers, landscape gardening, protection of native plants, trees and birds and the encouragement of civic planting." The club is a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and was one of the ten garden clubs to organize the Junior Flower Show Association. The club is governed by elected officers such as president, vice-president, and treasurer. The club's first civic project was the planting and maintenance of a garden at the Peachtree Branch of the Atlanta Public Library (now known as Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System). The club also maintained the "Old Lamp Post Garden" at the Swan House of the Atlanta Historical Society (now known as the Atlanta History Center). The club hosted and participated in numerous flower shows, winning many awards.
