Administrative/Biographical History
The Laurel Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1938 as the Little Garden Club for "the study and culture of flowers and the study of landscape gardening and allied subjects." The club changed its name to Laurel Garden Club in 1946. The club was admitted to The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. in 1945 and was a member of the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs and the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc. The club was governed by elected officers including President, Vice President, and Treasurer. The club's main civic project was providing plants for the auditorium of the Ida Williams branch of the Atlanta Public Library (now the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library System). The club also supported many area hospitals such as the Veteran's Hospital, Fulton County Almshouse Haven Home, Egleston Children's Hospital, and Aidmore Hospital. The club hosted and participated in many flower shows, winning numerous awards.
