Administrative/Biographical History

The Riverside West Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1968 to "encourage interest in all phases of home gardening and to promote horticultural practices, civic beauty, and the conservation of natural resources." The club was a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., the Fulton Federation of Garden Clubs, and the Sandy Springs Planning Council. The club was governed by elected officers such as president, vice president, and treasurer. The club participated in many community beautification projects, all within the Riverside West neighborhood bordered by Riverside Drive Northwest, Heards Creek, and the Chattahoochee River. Projects included landscaping and maintaining five neighborhood islands and replacing neighborhood entrance signs. The club also planted shrubs at Riverwood High School and sponsored the Riverside West Junior Gardeners Club comprised of 5th through 7th grade girls.
