Administrative/Biographical History

Robert James Lowry (1840-1919) was one of six children born to parents Colonel William Moore Lowry Sr. (1813-1887) and Julia Anne Lowry (1818-1880), in Greene County, Tennessee. The family relocated to Atlanta between 1853 and 1861. Robert married Emma Celestia Markham (1844-1923), in 1862. In 1865 Robert joined his father in banking, and eventually became president of the Lowry Banking Company (later Lowry National Bank).
