This collection contains research materials for a report by Hugh T. Keenan on the religious pageant Heaven Bound, performed by choirs of Big Bethel A.M.E. Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and the impact of the production on the African-American community. Materials include articles, newspaper clippings, production programs, and fliers. The collection also contains a copy of the finished report, published in the Journal of American Culture in 1988.

Hugh T. Keenan was an English professor at Georgia State University. He edited a collection of letters by Joel Chandler Harris into a book Dearest Chums and Partners, published in 1993. Keenan retired from his position at Georgia State University and resides in the Atlanta area. Additional biographical information about Hugh T. Keenan has not been determined.
