Administrative/Biographical History
Benjamin Conley was born March 1, 1815 in Newark, New Jersey. He lived in Augusta, Georgia where he served as mayor and in Alabama during the Civil War. After the war, he returned to Augusta. He was a state senator from 1868-1869; President of Macon & Augusta Railroad, 1868; and Acting Governor of Georgia from 1871-1872. He died in 1885.
