Administrative/Biographical History
The Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Pride Committee was founded in the mid 1970s to organize pride events for Atlanta's lesbian and gay community. In 1980, the committee changed its name to include transgender individuals, becoming the Lesbian, Gay, and Transgendered Pride Committee. In 1993, due to the committee's efforts in legislative lobbying, Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, the Atlanta City Council, and the Fulton County Board of Commissioners all issued proclamations declaring June 21-27, 1993 "Lesbian and Gay Pride Week."
