Administrative/Biographical History

One Man's Family was a radio program that aired from 1932 to 1959, making it the longest running serial in American radio history. The program, set in Sea Cliff, San Francisco, California, followed the fictional lives of the Barbour family, including the grandparents, five adult children, their spouses, and eleven grandchildren. The show focused on the dynamics of the family with drama between different generations and major plotlines centered on marriage, death, and wartime issues. Carlton Morse (1901-1993), the creator of the show, was a journalist who wrote for many west coast newspapers, including the Sacramento Union and The Seattle Times. He began his career in radio in 1928 as a script writer. Standard Brands Incorporated sponsored the show. In 1929, the Fleischmann Company, the Royal Baking Powder Company, and Chase and Sanborn merged to form Standard Brands Incorporated.
