Administrative/Biographical History
In October 1936, Atlanta was named one of ten cities in the United States selected as sites for Federal Education Forums. The United States Office of Education sponsored the program, which consisted of five months of discussion on various educational topics. According to the Atlanta Constitution (October 29, 1936): "Atlanta's Board of Education, working jointly with a citizens' commission, which it will designate, will be in sole charge of the forum plans...and will have complete supervision of the subject matter to be treated." The forums started February 1, 1937, and continued until June 30, 1937.
