Administrative/Biographical History
Carrie Dyer (1876-1901) founded the Calleopeans in Acworth, Georgia, in 1898 as a private library for group members. After Dyer's death, the club was renamed the Carrie Dyer Reading Club. In 1908 the name changed again, this time to the Carrie Dyer Woman's Club, when the club joined the Georgia Federation of Woman's Clubs. The club purchased a house in Acworth to serve as a clubhouse and public library in 1910. This library merged with the Cobb County-Marietta Public Library System after they constructed a library nearby in 1963.
