Scope and Content

The bulk of the records consist of administrative and financial materials - minutes, ledgers, check stubs, secretary's warrant books, and membership dues - from 1912-1951. These materials, along with meeting announcements and correspondence, document ASA's meetings, financial activities and social activities. The correspondence is primarily between members of A.A. Craig and William Purdie. The printed material consists of bulletins of Scottish or Scottish society related news. Finally, the Burns Club folder consists of a brochure and two photocopied newspaper articles.

Administrative/Biographical History

The Atlanta Scottish Association (ASA), founded in 1912, provided those of Scottish descent in Atlanta, Georgia with a social organization. The membership ranged from active dues paying members to inactive, recognized members. Through monthly meetings held at the Burns Cottage in Atlanta, social gatherings and fraternal events were organized, often with the aid of the Ladies Auxiliary of the ASA. The ASA also maintained ties to other Scottish affiliated organizations, such as the Burns Club of Atlanta and the Burns Federation. Additional historical information has not been determined.
