Wilhelmina "Billie" Bluet Drummond papers
Scope and Content
This collection contains material related to Wilhelmina Drummond's military service in France during World War I. Included is a French automobile drivers license issued to Drummond; and a contract signed by Drummond to serve with American Women's Hospitals. Also included is typed correspondence in French from the American Committee for Devastated France, Inc., instructing Drummond to report to their offices to be assigned to a destination in France to work as a ambulance driver and mechanic. There are also newspaper clippings and a bulletin of the American Women's Hospitals. Of particular note is a diary written by Drummond between August 28, 1918, through March 27, 1919, while she served in Luzancy, France, during and after the war.

Administrative/Biographical History
Wilhelmina Bluet "Billie" Drummond (1887-1973) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to George Clark Drummond (1840-1918) and Harriet Dunn (1864-1915). She graduated from Girls High School in 1904 and studied at the Boston Conservatory of Music. During World War I, she was a mechanic and ambulance driver for the American Women's Hospital in Luzancy, France. She married John Herdman Harland (1885-1976) in 1922, and the couple had two children: Miriam Drummond Harland (1923-2003) and John Herdman Harland Jr. (1928-1928).
