Administrative/Biographical History

Marjorie Uhry (1905-1986) was born in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, Louisiana. The Uhry family subsequently moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana and Beaumont, Texas before settling in Atlanta, Georgia in the 1920s. Marjorie graduated from Louisiana State University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1925, and in 1930 she married Charles Liebman (1901-1980), an executive with the National Paper Company. The couple resided in Atlanta. Marjorie Uhry Liebman served as president of the League of Women Voters in the 1940s. She was recognized for her work with the organization in 1947 when she received the title of Atlanta's Woman of the Year in the department of civic affairs. In the late 1940s, Liebman formed a public relations agency, Scott-Liebman, with business partner Deezy Scott. It was one of the first Atlanta businesses to be run by women. After Scott's death, Liebman continued to run the agency alone until weeks before her death.
