Scope and Content
This collection contains landscape drawings of chiefly residential properties in Atlanta and other cities in Georgia and North Carolina. Some of the drawings from 1982-1985 were created by Franklin-Smith Associates of which Smith was a landscape architect. Also part of the collection is a business poster and landscape plans for parks and a subdivision. Of special interest are drawings for the Schlaifer residence in Atlanta and the Williamson residence, Salubrity Hall, in Augusta.

Administrative/Biographical History
William T. Smith and Associates Inc. is led by William 'Bill' Tingle Smith, ASLA (1952- ). Smith earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia School of Environment and Design in 1976. After working with landscape architect Dan Franklin as part of Franklin-Smith Associates in the 1980s, Smith formed his own firm, William T. Smith and Associates, Inc. Smith's landscape projects include the Georgia Governor's Mansion as well as many Atlanta residences such as the property of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Schlaifer. He is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and has been involved with organizations such as the Cherokee Garden Library at the Atlanta History Center, the Southern Garden History Society, and the Garden Club of America. Smith has given lectures to several organizations including the Georgia H. W. Bush Presidential Library, the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, and the University of Georgia. He designs not only landscape master plans, but also garden furnishings such as benches and planters. Smith's projects have been highlighted in numerous publications such as Southern Living, Southern Accents, Veranda, and Private Gardens of Georgia.
