This collection contains interior and exterior views of the Edgar Poe McBurney's residence at 1300 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia. One photograph shows a view of a formal dinner party held at McBurney's home in celebration of his birthday. Of special note are images of Villa Nelili, McBurney's Memorial Gardens.

Administrative/Biographical History

Edgar Poe McBurney (1862-1940) was born in Ithaca, New York, to J.C. and Lusina McBurney. He spent most of his life in Atlanta, Georgia, as a developer and investor, and became president of the Empire Cotton Mills. McBurney served as vice president and president of the Trust Company of Georgia Associates, the First National Bank of Georgia, and served as director of the Southern and Florida Railroad Company. McBurney's Real Estate and Loan Exchange handled early subscriptions for the West View Cemetery Association. He and his second wife, Helen Sterrett Hersey, helped found the Atlanta Art Association (later named the High Museum of Art). Upon McBurney's death, he left funds to establish the Edgar Poe and Helen Sterrett McBurney Memorial Fund.Additonial biographical information about Edgar Poe McBurney has not been determined.
