Scope and Contents
This collection contains illustrations submitted to the society column that Yolande Copley Gwin edited at the Atlanta Journal. Editorial cartoonists featured in the collection include Clifford "Baldy" Baldowski (1917-1999), Lou "Eric" Erickson (1913-1990), Howard Paris (1919-2004), and others. Also included are photographs of Gwin with unidentified individuals, possibly Atlanta Journal or Atlanta Constitution staff, as well as signed photographs of Georgia Governors Richard B. Russell Jr. (1897-1971) and Lester Maddox (1915-2003). Of special note is a "Get Well Soon" card illustrated by Howard Paris and signed by Atlanta Journal and Atlanta Constitution staff, as well as a group photograph of a reunion of "The Ole Gang," a group of men from the Hills Park and Inman Park neighborhoods.

Biographical / Historical
Yolande Copley Gwin (1910-1993) was born in Mobile, Alabama, to James Lyon Gwin (1876-1955) and Mary Pearl Gwin (1881-1958). The Gwins moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1912. Yolande graduated from the Washington Seminary in Atlanta in 1924 and worked in public relations at the Biltmore Hotel between 1924 and 1927. She started her career in journalism in 1927 with a society column titled "Polly Peachtree," published in the Atlanta Georgian. She worked as a journalist for the Atlanta Constitution between 1934 and 1961, and was the Society Editor for the Atlanta Journal from 1963 to 1975. Gwin authored two books, Yolande's Atlanta, from the Historical to the Hysterical (1983) and I Remember Margaret Mitchell (1987).
