Elizabeth Patton “Lizzie” Love Cochran (1864- 1955) was born in Dekalb County, Georgia, a month before the Battle of Atlanta, to Colonel David Donaldson Kolb Love and Margaret Catherine Baker. Margaret was a refugee during the Civil War on her way from Austell, Georgia to Greenville, Georgia. Elizabeth was born at the home of her great-grandfather, Thomas Kennedy, in Dekalb County. During the Battle of Atlanta, infant Elizabeth and her mother spent the night in Brotherton’s store at the corner of Whitehall and Mitchell Streets, SW. Elizabeth’s great-grandparents, The Bakers, were pioneers of Dekalb County and Bakers Ferry Road, SW. Elizabeth had six siblings: Emma; Sallie; G. A.; Tom; John; and A. O. Elizabeth married Elias Alexander Cochran on 30 November 1881. They had seven children: Charles Opal; Ivan; Sarah True; Starling Love; Earl Thomas; Mabel Elizabeth; and Evelyn. Her daughter, Sarah, married Paul Huff and lived in Atlanta. Mrs. Cochran died 19 January 1955 at the age of ninety.
