Administrative/Biographical History
Charles Frederick Naegele was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, the eldest son of Charles and Christina Naegele. He was a portrait and figure work artist. He began as an apprentice to marble cutters in Memphis, Tennessee. He studied in New York City with C. Myles Collier, William Sartain, and William Chase. In 1914 he was named librarian of the Salmagundi Club Library of New York City. He is noted for having originated and installed a new method for cataloging the library's holdings. He lived his last years in Marietta, Georgia.
