Scope and Contents of the Records

The majority of the collection consists of vendor sales brochures, pamphlets, catalogs, and specification sheets pertaining to locomotive equipment and replacement parts. Some vendors represented in the collection are Browning Locomotive Cranes, Industrial Brownhoist Corporation, The Marion Steam Shovel Company, and Western Cars. Also included in the collection are two oversized parts and sales catalogues compiled by MacRae’s Blue Book, and Manning, Maxwell, and Moore, Inc., an assortment of Georgia Car and Locomotive sales brochures, and two large wall calendars published by the National Railway Historical Society, Inc.

Administrative/Biographical History

Georgia Car and Locomotive Company was headquartered in downtown Atlanta on Ridge Avenue; Forest Greene (abt.1877 – d. June 30, 1971) served as president from 1904 -19691. Georgia Car and Locomotive Company, acting as a dealer, sold a variety of railroad and passenger cars, locomotive cranes, dump cars, logging cars, repair parts, and equipment for commercial purposes. The company also sold second-hand equipment and rebuilt parts for locomotive cars. The sales territory for the company encompassed the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Additional descriptive information regarding Georgia Car and Locomotive Company has not been determined.
