Samuel Inman Cooper (14 February 1894 – 7 June 1974) was born in Atlanta, Georgia and spent his youth in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He obtained degrees from Princeton University and University of Pennsylvania (architecture, 1921). He served in World War I as a Lieutenant in the 22nd Infantry and served as a lieutenant colonel in the Corps of Engineers during World War II. His professional career began in Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked as a draftsman at the firm of A. Ten Eyck Brown (1922-1925). He served as president of the firm Cooper and Cooper, Inc., architects and engineers, which he founded with his brother, Joseph W. Cooper Jr. (1925-1942); president of Cooper, Bond, and Cooper, Inc. (1952-1965); and chairman of Cooper, Barrett, Skinner, Woodbury, and Cooper, Inc., architects (1965-1972). Samuel Inman Cooper retired from professional life in 1972 but remained an active participant in the architecture and design disciplines. He served as a delegate to eight meetings of the Pan American Congress of Architects (1947-1965) and chairman of the Atlanta Civic Design Commission (1967- 1970). Samuel Inman Cooper died 7 June 1974 and was buried in Pennsylvania. His wife, Augusta Skeen Cooper (?-10 February 1984) survived him.
