George B. Cadwallader (1830-?) was born on October 20, 1830, in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was educated at Danville Academy while working as an assistant in a drug store. In 1858 he bought his own drug store in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. On April 22, 1861, he was mustered into the Federal Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and was eventually promoted to Captain and Assistant Quartermaster by President Abraham Lincoln. In this position he supplied the Union army from Alexandria, Virginia to Savannah, Georgia. He achieved the rank of Brevet Brigadier General before leaving the Federal Army. On November 1, 1864, he joined the 1st Division, 20th Army Corps and participated in General Sherman’s March to the Sea. During this campaign he was in charge of supply trains and the evacuation of citizens of Atlanta. On December 24, 1864, he was appointed Chief Depot Quartermaster in Savannah, Georgia. For a year after the Civil War ended he worked on reconstruction projects in the South. He was mustered out on September 10, 1866. After leaving he became a Fire Chief and was elected Chief Burgess of Sunbury, Pennsylvania. He was also President of the Sunbury Grouse Club. Additional biographical information about George B.
