Scope and Content

This collection contains flower show programs, award books of evidence, publicity articles, and correspondence that provide a history of Marsha Webb's career as a national flower show judge and internationally known flower arranger. Also included are documents that detail her involvement with numerous organizations such as the The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., the Atlanta Botanical Garden, National Garden Clubs, Inc., and WAFA (World Association of Flower Arrangers). Of special interest are program materials from international flower shows that illustrate the global scale of flower arrangement competitions.

Administrative/Biographical History

Marsha "Marsh" Pirkle Webb (1949- ) of Sandy Springs, Georgia, is an Atlanta native and married to Gregory B. Webb. Several of her family members are involved in gardening, nursery growing, and flower show judging. Marsha's mother-in-law, Mrs. Willis L. Webb (Evelin 'Evelyn' Huffman Webb), was a Master Flower Show Judge and encouraged Marsha to attend flower show school to learn flower arranging. In the early 1970s Webb joined her first garden club, the Magnolia Garden Club of Fort Valley, Georgia. She is now an internationally known flower arranger, a National Garden Club Advanced Accredited Master Flower Show Judge, and an approved design judge with Garden Club of America. She is a member of numerous organizations such as the Designers Club, North Georgia Council of Flower Show Judges, the Southeastern Flower Show (part of the Southeastern Horticultural Society of which she is a founding member), WAFA (World Association of Flower Arrangers), Creative Flower Arrangers of the Americas, and life member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Webb is also a life member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. (GCG) and has held several leadership roles within the GCG Dogwood District as well as the state level of GCG. She has also been involved with Mayor Maynard Jackson's Green Ribbon Committee to oversee a Park Master Plan for Atlanta and the Atlanta Regional Commission Vision 20-20 Planning Agency.
