Scope and Content

This collection contains minute books, reports, treasurer's records, membership lists, correspondence, annual histories, a scrapbook, and other materials that document the activities of the club. Also included is Volume 1, Number 1, of The American Monthly, a DAR publication. Of particular interest is a visitor's register from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Building at the Atlanta Cotton States and International Exposition in 1895.

Administrative/Biographical History

Founded on April 15, 1891, the Atlanta Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is the second oldest chapter in the United States. The Massachusetts Building at the 1895 Atlanta Cotton States and International Exposition became the chapter house of the organization and was called the Cragie House. The DAR is a women's civic and patriotic organization whose members are descendants of individuals who participated in the American Revolutionary War. Additional historical information about the Atlanta Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has not been determined.
