This material is mainly correspondence concerning the ingredients for medicines used by Cash to treat patients. There are also ledger books and receipts pertaining to his professional activities, including lecture cards for the Atlanta Medical College.

Herbert S. Alden medical prescriptions

Scope and Content This collection contains forty-three handwritten prescriptions written by sixteen Atlanta physicians. There are two prescriptions from 1891 that do not contain the prescribing physician's name. All of the prescriptions except one (1918) are handwritten. Some of the handwritten prescriptions appear to indicate a certain type of medicine prescribed for medical treatment, but most are illegible. The prescribing physicians include Dr. J. F. Alexander, Dr. C. C. Aven, Dr. James Baird, Dr....

Reuben and Sarah Schumpert diary

Scope and Content

This collection contains a diary started by Reuben Schumpert on July 30, 1861. In it he records his experience joining the 11th Battalion, Sumpter Light Artillery. Sarah Schumpert, his stepmother, began writing in the diary on July 3, 1864. In her entries she reflects upon domestic life during the Civil War, including details of the loss of her stepson and of her husband's military service. Of particular note are two medicinal recipes.
