This collection contains photographs taken by Colonel Thomas Spencer of buildings and sites related to the American Civil War, largely the Battle of Chickamauga and battlesites in the Atlanta Campaign. Most of the photographs were taken in Georgia, with some in Tennessee and Alabama. Many buildings depicted served as headquarters and hospitals of one or both armies during the Civil War.
