Jordan from Inez James, a teenaged girl in Varnell’s Station, Georgia. Two letters from Ms. James describe how she and her neighbors were under siege from Union soldiers who confiscated food and personal items from their farms. Scope and Content This collection contains ephemera found in the Cherokee Garden Library historic book, Floral Keepsakes (1854) by John Keese (1805-1856). The book was owned and inscribed by sisters Sweetie and Mary Lizzie Meguiar. Items include correspondence and essays written by the Meguair sisters while attending College in Kentucky. Also a part of the collection are letters from friends, such as Helen Mary Shelby (1857-1904), also a student of the same college. The...

This collection contains photographs of five generations of the Smith-Steele-Medlock-Davenport family gathered for Elizabeth Hawkins Smith's 93rd birthday. Also included is a watercolor drawing of Jasper Smith (1836), Martha Ellen Smith Paden's brother, who died during the American Civil War. Of special note are photographs of “Auntie Gracie” and Wilkes Smith, two formerly enslaved people who worked for the Smith family. Robert S. Paden took the photograph of Wilkes Smith.

Scope and Content This collection consists of diaries; correspondence; military records and certificates; newspaper clippings; land deeds; and ephemera pertaining to William M. Standard. The collection also contains a school essay written by Standard's great-great-grandson, Ron Currens, and a 1961 map of Civil War battlefields on which Currens marked the route his ancestor followed during the war.
