This collection contains photographs and blueprints from the Atlanta Transit System, Inc. (ATS) in Atlanta, Georgia. Included are photographs and schematics of buses, streetcars, and trolleys used by ATS, as well as images of ATS staff. Scope and Contents of the Records
The photographs in this collection were created during two survey grants sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The images in the first grant documented the development of Atlanta’s rapid transit system (MARTA) from 1977- 1978, and photographs from the second grant (1979-1981) illustrate Atlanta’s role as a center of transportation. This collection contains images of early 20th century terminal stations, railroad yards, and freight stations located in the Atlanta area. Negatives include views of the Inman transfer railroad yards; the Madison Avenue freight station; the Decatur Street freight station; and the North Avenue automobile terminal.
