This series contains images of garden related themes, historic homes, and gardens. Also a part of this series are cities, historic sites, and gardens worldwide that Cothran photographed. A variety of images are included such as Antebellum gardens, brick paving patterns, cemeteries, historic plants, historic gardening books, outdoor ornaments, and city parks. The majority of material documents Georgia and South Carolina historic homes and gardens.

Each application is listed under the name of the relevant ancestor of the applicant. Some ancestors may have several applicants' forms in their files. Included in each file is the genealogy and research proving relationships and confrontations between native and immigrant Americans.
