Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection contains images collected by the DuBose family. Subjects include military personnel, battlefields, and the U. S. Civil War era. Photographic formats include ambrotypes, cartes de visite, cabinet cards, daguerreotypes, drawings, engravings, ivorytypes, photographs, tintypes, albumen prints, and photographic albums. There are also photographic images with drawn enhancements, one of a young soldier and another of an older man. These images document the United States Civil War. Included is a photograph and documentary evidence of Jefferson Davis' inauguration. Fifty-eight images are cased, some in thermo-plastic cases known as Union Cases. Other images are enclosed in mats and preservers. The bulk of the images are unidentified men and soldiers and also some women and children. Included are identified soldiers and civilians such as prominent generals and politicians such as Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee, General John Bell Hood, Howell Cobb, and General Joseph E. Johnston. There are also drawings and engravings of battlefields, camps, and soldiers.
