Administrative/Biographical History

The Clay Hills Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia was formed in 1941 "to stimulate interest among amateur gardeners, and to aid in the protection of native birds and flowers, to promote development of home grounds and to aid in the beautification of the City." The club is a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and is governed by officers elected by members including a president and vice president. The club has been an active participant in many local and regional flower shows, winning numerous awards. Marie Nicholson, first president of the National Tulip Society and nationally recognized Atlanta tulip expert, served as club sponsor until her death in 1975. The club has supported many local organizations such as The Atlanta Garden Center, the American Red Cross, and Piedmont Hospital.
