This collection contains photographs taken for Movers and Shakers in Georgia by Lucinda Bunnen and Frankie Coxe. The collection includes images of notable political, business, cultural, and arts figures between 1976-1978 in Georgia. Also included are photographs of events such as Jimmy Carter's presidential election, a Decatur Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) planning meeting, the Ramblin' Raft Race on the Chattahoochee River, an Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concert in Piedmont Park, Atlanta Braves baseball team opening days, and Isamu Noguchi's Playscapes opening event in Piedmont Park.

Biographical / Historical

Lucinda Weil Bunnen (1930-2022) was born in Katonah, New York, to Sylvan E. Weil (1892-1952) and Ruth Alice Norman Weil Halsband (1901-1971). She married Robert Bunnen (1922-2012) in 1952 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Bunnen has two siblings: Pheobe Weil Franklin Lundeen (1928-1985), who was married to Abram DeJongh Franklin (1922-1986), and Frank Allan Weil (1931- ). She is an Atlanta-based photographer and co-founded Nexus (later the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center) in 1973 and Photo Forum at the High Museum of Art in 1992. She also contributed funds and photographs from renowned artists to establish the Bunnen Collection at the High Museum of Art. Bunnen co-authored three books: Movers and Shakers in Georgia (1978), Scoring in Heaven, Gravestones and Cemetery Art in The American Sunbelt States (1990), and ALASKA Trails, Tales and Eccentric Detours (1992). Her fourth book, Gathered, was published in 2018.

Bunnen has served on the Board of Directors for a variety of arts and charitable organizations including the Hambidge Center, the High Museum of Art, Photo Forum, Save the Fox, and Art Papers. Her work has been featured nationally and internationally at museums and galleries including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA), the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, New York, the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, Russia. Bunnen has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Governor's Award in the Arts in 1986, the “Women in the Visual Arts” award in 1997, and the Nexus Award in 2016.
