Captain James Robert McMichael Civil War diary and letters

Scope and Content This collection includes a typed transcription of a diary of Captain James Robert McMichael written while a prisoner-of-war. The collection also contains typed transcriptions of letters received while in prison at Fort Delaware, names of units of fellow prisoners, and their signatures, a poem by Captain Jas. R. McCallum of Knoxville, Tennessee; and a tally of Confederate officers sent from Fort Delaware on board the USS Crescent to Morris Island.

Perry to his aunt in New Hope, Pennsylvania, on November 23, 1863 from Fort Warren, Boston Harbor, Massachusetts. Scope and Content This collection contains two transcribed letters. The first letter of the collection was written by Hosea Garrett, Jr. to his uncle, Reverend Hosea Garrett, on August 1, 1864. This letter provides a detailed account of the Atlanta Campaign, and the fighting that occurred on July 27, 1864. Scope and Contents of the Records This collection contains transcripts of letters written by John Craig Evans to his wife, Annie, from December 1864- June 1865. Most of the letters were written in Petersburg, Virginia and consist of questions about his children, family, and home life. Evans letters also note an increasing amount of desertions as troop conditions become harsher, and mention his involvement in the Battle of Hatchers Run and the Battle of Fort Stedman. Scope and Content This collection contains military records, genealogies, and photocopies of family records written inside a bible. Of particular interest is Hall's diary (1863-1865), which contains financial records, notes, and a copy of a letter from his future wife. Also included are copies of John S. T. Hall's records in a Confederate Roll of Prisoners of War, and a copy of Hall's appointment as a notary public in 1875.

Nathaniel Wiley Harbin Civil War letter

Scope and Content This collection consists of a letter written by Nathaniel Wiley Harbin to his father about the First Battle of Manassas. Harbin gives an account of the battle, where he acted as a "skirmisher," and describes the rout of the Federal army and the supplies they abandoned during their retreat. Harbin includes a casualty list for his company and writes about the capture of Federal prisoners.
