Artimesia W. Tucker testimony

This collection contains a proclamation signed by the Atlanta City Council on September 16, 2013 in honor of the 150th anniversary of the January 1, 1863 signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. D. C. Colley funeral invitation

Scope and Content

The collection contains a hand written funeral invitation for Lieutenant D. C. Colley who served in Company G, 61st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. According to Mr. Colley's great-niece the invitation was shown door-to-door on a silver plate by a servant.

This collection contains land deeds from Macon County, Muscogee County, and Meriwether County in Georgia, receipts, business records, and legal documents. Of particular note is a bill of sale for enslaved people in Muscogee County, Georgia; a list of enslaved people with ages and brief descriptions; and correspondence relating to land transactions on the part of William A. and Daniel McDougald.

Florence W. Brine manuscripts

This collection contains three manuscripts: "Arrogant Atlanta" retells a British newspaper account of a visit to Atlanta around 1880; "Atlanta's Heart" discusses the building of the Georgia Railroad Depot in 1864 and the activities of the Beethoven Society which was located in the building; and "David Howard" a profile of a former enslaved man and his entrepreneurial activities in post-bellum Atlanta.
