Transcription of Lewis H. Andrews Civil War diary

Scope and Content

This collection contains a transcription of a diary written by Lewis H. Andrews of the Eighth Georgia Regiment, Longstreet's Corps. The diary entries chronicle a three week trip of a party of Confederate soldiers from Appomattox, Virginia to their homes in Georgia. This is a transcription of the diary which appeared in the Atlanta Journal May 21, 1904.

Transcription of Warren Akin letter

This collection is a transcription of a letter written by Warren Akin in Elberton, Georgia to "My Dear Sir" on October 31, 1864. The letter was typed by Ruth Blair of the Atlanta Historical Society for Sally Akin. The letter refers to the hardships of surviving in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Transcriptions of John Riley Hopkins Civil War letters

This collection contains two letters written by John Riley Hopkins; one to his wife in Norcross, Georgia and another to an unidentified individual. Transcriptions of Josiah Blair Patterson Civil War letters

Scope and Content

This collection contains transcriptions of letters from Lieutenant Josiah Blair Patterson of the Company E, 14th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, A. P. Hill's Light Division, Army of Northern Virginia. Most of the correspondence consists of letters he wrote to his family from Virginia and what is now West Virginia. The collection also includes an annotated outline of the 14th Regiment's organization and history, and the campaigns and battles in which it is known to have participated.

Transcriptions of Norton-Towers diaries

This collection contains transcriptions of two diaries accompanied with annotations made by the transcriber. One is the diary of R.S. Norton and the other was written by William Towers after the war. Each details company movements & discusses significant deaths of each battle. Norton also includes comments on rising prices of various staples and dry goods.

Transcriptions of speeches by President William McKinley

This collection contains transcriptions of eleven speeches made by President William McKinley in Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia. The speeches in Atlanta were given during a visit in mid-December 1898. Topics included care of disabled soldiers, and sectional unification of the country in the aftermath of the Spanish-American war.

Troutman and Battey family papers

The bulk of the Troutman and Battey family papers are legal documents (many from Floyd Country) generated by those families, including deeds of indenture (many signed by Dr. Robert Battey), wills, and an abstract of title to lands in Floyd County. The collection also contains correspondence, the majority of which was sent to Colonel Hiram Bainbridge Troutman, a book of Minstrel song, and documents pertaining to Atlanta society.

Tucker Family Bills and Correspondence

Scope and Content The majority of this collection includes monthly invoices, bills and other financial transactions initiated by Sarah Tucker after the death of her husband, Henry Holcombe Tucker. Almost all of the transactions involved businesses in downtown Atlanta. Tulip Study Club records

This collection contains correspondence, financial reports, and clippings that document the history of the social and civic activities of the club. Also a part of the collection are tulip show programs and clippings. Much of the material pertains to Marie Nicholson, club president from 1938 to 1948. A scrapbook from the Atlanta Tulip Show Association, in which many club members also served, provides more details of the Atlanta Tulip Show of 1946.

Tullie Smith House Blacksmith Guild records

This collection consists of the Tullie Smith House Blacksmith Guild records including its constitution and by-laws, correspondence, membership lists, and newsletters. Union Democratic Convention proceedings

This collection contains the printed proceedings from the Atlanta Intelligencer in a Special Edition. The content concerns an attempted reconciliation in Georgia between the Union wing of the Democratic Party and the Southern Rights wing of the Democratic Party proposed by the Union Democratic Convention held in Atlanta Sept. 17, 1852. This was an attempt to unify the Democratic Party in Georgia behind Franklin Pierce in the presidential election of 1852.
